Marching Cymbals

A suspended cymbal is a singular cymbal that is suspended in the air (hence the name) that are usually played with a set of two soft mallets. It makes a gradual and continuous crashing noise when played. It adds a bit of flair inside the pit similar to the crash cymbals. They also are quite important in concert band.

A hi-hat is two cymbals that are in contact with each other and when hit, they make a tss or a tsk noise. These can either be mounted on a marching snare drum or be a standalone instrument in the pit. Additionally, they could also be slightly separated which is referred to as an Open Hi-Hat.

A ride cymbal is essentially a suspended cymbal that is used in tandom with a snare drum. A ride cymbal could be an open hi-hat, a person holding a crash cymbal, or a small suspended cymbal mounted on the snare drum.

Marching Tenors

Flam 7 Percussion

The tenors are also referred to as the quads or quad drums. They are a collection of 4 - 6 differently sized drums which each make a different sound. They act as a higher pitched bassline, but with faster and more complex rhythms.

Music & Arts

The bells provide the melody to the percussion line. Their music typically follows the music of the woodwinds in the band. It is one of the hardest and most complex instruments in the percussion line due to the sheer number of notes there are. Its similar to keyboard or piano, but you hit the notes with mallets rather than pushing a key.
